image for Celebrity Mastermind Chef to hit the screens in Spring
With enough ingredients anything is possible

We have had straight Masterchef, we have had Junior Masterchef and Professionals Masterchef, we have even had Celebrity Masterchef, and bosses at the BBC have been scratching their heads over what the next Masterchef will be.

Finally they have hit on a novel crossover programme for the Spring Schedules: Mastermind Chef.

"It's a genius idea worthy of Dave Gorman," said BBC executive and Masterchef Chief, Richard Bacon. "We are combining Masterchef and Mastermind into one hour long programme."

The format of the show is simple. Four contestants go head-to-head in food based specialist subject questions, and then two minutes of general knowledge questions. Their total score at the end of these rounds determines the number of ingredients they can use in the final segment of the show, the cook-off.

"The wonderful part of the show is that even if you get the highest score in the questions sections of the show, you might still not win," said Bacon. "It's how you use the ingredients. Obviously, the more ingredients you have available, the better a dish you should be able to make, but it doesn't always follow."

With the introduction of Mastermind Chef, this opens up the avenue for even more Masterchef based programmes.

"As well as the usual raft of Masterchef shows," said Bacon, "We are also going to run with Celebrity Mastermind Chef, Junior Mastermind Chef and Professionals Mastermind Chef."

The first show is set for March, and the Masterchef Franchise will then run continuously forever as it does not cost much to make.
