After long debating whether or not Hollywood power couple Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes would star in a movie together, Holmes, 26, has said that the sequel to the 1996 film "Jerry Maguire" has been given the green-light from Sony Pictures.
"Actually, Tom showed me the script last night. It's such an honor to be playing opposite the love of my life. It's really amazing. I love him." Holmes replied when asked about a rumored sequel. She was promoting her new film 'Batman Begins' in Australia where Cruise, 42, is scouting locations for 'Mission Impossible 3' and unavailable for comment.
Holmes also added that the part given to her by Cruise, is a once in a lifetime role and beneficial to her carreer.
"I'm going to be starring as Jerry's sister. The storyline is going to be completely different and it's going to focus more on family life as well as religion. I feel that with this role, I'm going to be evolving more as an actress. I'll love Tom forever for giving me this part. He's really amazing."
Although no further details about the plot were given, Holmes' mention of religion might point to a Scientologist oriented storyline. Cruise, who has made his beliefs open to the public, has been the victim of punch-lines from comedians worldwide. In addition, his relationship with Holmes, who is 16 years younger, has caused some speculation especially since Cruise has been so openly affectionate. Which is something rarely seen in his previous relationships. Or any relationship at all.
No word on whether Renée Zellweger will return for her part as Cruise's love interest. As for other co-stars, Cuba Gooding Jr. is said to be reprising his Academy Award winning role.
When asked about her thoughts on a popular internet comedy cartoon made by Liquid Generation in which the animated couple parody the song 'Candy Shop', Holmes simply stated "Let the public have their fun. In the end, Tom and I are the ones getting the attention."
Other than each other's company, both Cruise and Holmes have enjoyed Top Ten films this summer, and got engaged last month.
A release date has been set for 2008.
