It's always good to be successful in your particular line of work, even brag about it in your music if you happen to be a musician, but the fates tend to align against you when you actually start believing all the crap that comes out of your own uneducated mouth. Case in point? Kanye West.
In two recent interviews, Kanye decided to explain the nature of his recent actions at awards shows and in public by comparing himself to music legends, political figures and even iconic Renaissance and Impressionistic painters. He was an "Artist" after all, and found himself comfortably in the company of other legendary artists. Worse than that, when questioned about his meaning, or specifically asked if he believed he was as great as some of the greats, West took exception to the question altogether.
West's personal assistant, Six Pack Johnson defends his employer. "Like, Kanye is all that and a bag of chips. Fitty, Dre, Ice T, they all had nothing compared to my boy, Kanye. He is the man. More famous even than that Mozart dude from whatever country that was in Europe, man".
It is starting to look like a pattern. Go off the deep end a little, start to believe you are as great as some of your freeloading cling on posse tell you, and you're on your way down the Oasis path. Remember them? After a hot little album in the mid 90's and plenty of public acclaim, they compared themselves to the Beatles, even suggesting they were better than the fab four from Liverpool. Heard a song on the radio from Oasis lately? I rest my case. Kanye buddy, keep running your mouth and start looking for some modest living arrangements on your way down to playing regional night clubs and off the strip Vegas venues. We're looking forward to not remembering you in ten years.
