image for Shane MacGowan Joins Priests For Christmas Release

Pogues frontman and notorious hard drinker Shane MacGowan has joined an unlikely team for his latest release.

Shane has recorded Little Drummer Boy/Peace On Earth with Northern Ireland's The Priests.

The medley was originally a number one hit for David Bowie and Bing Crosby in 1977. Now record company executives hope this new collaboration will repeat the success.

"We think the new version has plenty that sets it apart from Dave and Bing's effort," said a label insider.

"The alternative mixes that we've recorded should really give it a push. We've captured Shane demanding a 'point of fuckin' Guinness' and added that as a rap in the middle of one mix.

"At one stage Shane also sings about his love of fags [cigarettes] to the tune of the Peace on Earth - 'Where's me tabs/I love tabs' and so on.

"It really is very moving when Shane tries to pick a fight with a studio engineer and the Priests step in - it really highlights the idea of peace on earth."
