image for Eggheads to be Replaced by Meatheads: BBC denies Dumbing-down
Speaking of dumbing down...

Claims of "dumbing down" leveled by angry viewers following the cancellation of Eggheads has been strongly refuted by the BBC.

Many viewers became incensed when they learned the popular quiz show, which pits challengers against Britain's most respected general knowledge boffins was to be cancelled indefinitely.

It was swiftly announced that the show was to be replaced with Meatheads, a show which eschews intelligence and knowledge in favour of rewarding ignorance, with topics including "inability to differentiate between greatly different cultures" and "inanely clichéd racial stereotypes".

This failed to satisfy loyal followers of the show and they were further inflamed by news that presenter Dermot Murnaghan was to be replaced by Nuts TV critic, Garry "the friendly bearded face of bigotry" Bushell.

Producers insisted these changes reflected a commitment to providing "popular but hard-hitting event television" and pointed out that the idea had already been a huge success "in one of them Mexican countries".

They also hit out at those "outdated elitists" who are constantly looking to perceived differences between their era and the now by saying "To those that use that tired cliché that the BBC is dumbing down, I'd quote the Black Eyed Peas song "shut up, just shut up, shut up"."
