American Idol asked the fans who they thought should replace Simon Cowell and they responded loud and clear, "We want Jon and Kate Gosselin to be the next big thing on American Idol."
Most everyone agrees that it has never really been about the contestants anyway. It's always been about Simon Cowell, and now that he's no longer going to be a judge on the show, American Idol is scrambling to find someone big enough to fill his shoes, in a manner of speaking, of course. He's not really that large a man at all to begin with.
More importantly, fans want someone they can hate and Kate Gosselin fits that bill. Then why Jon Gosselin, some ask? Simple, Jon Gosselin brings out the worst in Kate, and for a show the size of American Idol you need an extra helping of controversy. Enough said.
The fact that Jon and Kate Gosselin are not one but two people, have a tendency to flake out at the smallest thing, and will probably have to bring the kids to the show occasionally on the babysitter's day off are all concerns for the producers of the show but ones they say they are willing to overlook in order to bring the controversy and edge to American Idol that fans expect.
Potential contestants are less thrilled with the idea, many of them voicing concerns about having to stand up there and be judged by Kate Gosselin. In fact, if Kate Gosselin does become a judge, producers say they may have to add a clause in the contestants' contract that says they won't sue for mental anguish once the show gets underway.
Negotiations are underway to try and convince Kara DioGuardi to step down as a judge as well so the boy, girl/boy, bitchy woman, man whore ration on the judges' panel can continue.
A final decision is due any day now.
