Hollywood, CA - With the extreme popularity of the hit show Glee, everyone in Hollywood is scrambling to make musicals of all the great cult classics, but none are expected to cause as big a stir as the musical re-make of the 1936 cult exploitation film, Reefer Madness. In fact, when the idea was originally pitched to a major Hollywood studio executive, he reportedly got Bieber's manager on the phone right away and offered the lead part to Bieber.
Although the original film was neither a musical nor filled with big Hollywood names, and although Reefer Madness was originally intended as a morality play, everyone involved with the project believe it will work beautifully.
Bieber will play the lead of Jack Perry alongside Miley Cyrus, who will play Jack's lover, Mae Coleman. The story is about how Perry and Coleman deal weed and get mixed up in a gang of young people who eventually realize the hard way that pot can ruin lives. No word on how closely the re-written script will follow the original. Producers are also hoping to sign American Idol Adam Lambert and singer/actress Pink as co-stars in the movie.
Asked if the message is a bit old-fashioned and would turn off the younger crowd the movie is aimed at, a spokesperson for the project replied, "basically, we know that Bieber and the others will be a big enough draw to send any message they like about the use of drugs as long as the music is loud and the actors/singers are popular. Of course, we can change up the story any way we want to reflect a more 'pot-tolerant' attitude."
Adding to the hype of this movie venture is the fact that the producers have tentatively begun negotiations with Sir Paul McCartney to write the score for the movie, and are seeking permission to include many songs from the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album. If, in fact, this project gets off the ground, it could be one of the most brilliant movies to hit theaters in years.
