Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Gonzo, Fozie Bear, and their friends will return to the big screen in the summer of 2010 with the release of their latest movie. In this one, the muppets take on Shakespeare and the classic "Romeo and Juliet." Romeo will be played, of course, by Kermit the Frog while the female lead of Juliet will be played by Miss Piggy.
As is natural with any adaptation, some dialogue changes will take place. For example, the line "That which we call a rose, by any other name would smell as sweet" will be delivered by Romeo (instead of Juliet) as "that which we call a hog would still smell like bacon." The line where Juliet tells Romeo to "deny they father" becomes "deny they father and leave thy frog pond." The line by Mercutio "a plague on both your houses" will include "swine flu on his and extra warts on yours."
Other muppets will play major roles in the movies, with some variation. Tybalt (relative of Juliet) and his gang of friends will be played by Gonzo and his chickens. Mercutio (of Romeo's group) will be played by Fozie Bear. In their sword fight, Gonzo/Tybalt uses his beak instead of a sword against Romeo and Mercutio.
Lord and Lady Montague and Lord and Lady Capulet will be played by, respectively, Elmo and Zoey and Doctor Bunsen Honeydew and Beaker. The role of Friar Laurence will be played by the French Chef. Big Bird will take the role of The Prince of Verona.
The Muppets have previously taken on Treasure Island and A Christmas Carol, but thie is their first attempt at Shakespeare. When asked his opinion of the material, Fozie Bear said "yucka, yucka, yucka."
