image for Saudi girl is punished for attempted murder
Raheleh Samani

A girl in Saudi Arabia will receive over 36 lashes for an attempted murder on her female teacher. The religious courts also felt it was necessary to place the girl two months in prison.

The story took place in a female only school. The female teacher first took away the girls cell phone and the girl attempted to kill the teacher by striking her on the head.

Saudi Arabia's National Society for Human Rights said they are upset with the verdict but at the same time they say they didn't care how a man was given 1000 lashes and five years in prison for bragging about his sex life on national television.

Feminist groups in Saudi Arabia agree with the sentence because the girl struck another female and that is against feminist ideology.

Religious clerics in the city of Jubail said they punished the girl for breaking Islamic laws.

There were reports coming into media networks around the world that the girl tried to kill her female teacher by striking her on the head with a glass. The girl said she is poor and the cell phone was expensive for her to replace and that is what promoted her to defend her personal property.

Dr. Abu Sabu Kalif, a spokesman for the rights group, said the penalty was too severe for a female but males should get double the beatings till their testicles fall off.

It's all about Wahhabism which is the interpretation of Islam. Wahhabism will not save anyone from a medical illness or from starvation and some say it is no different from Voodoo.

Raheleh Samani an inmate headmistress who controls the female inmates in the prison in Jubail said that the girl will be placed in her care while she does her two month sentence in the female prison.

Raheleh said, "I will take care of her in prison and she will sleep in my bed where I can keep an eye on her and I will teach her to be good."
