Famous musician Billy Joel released a surprise statement today in which he admits to starting the fire.
Accused of arson in 1988, Joel released song "we didn't start the fire" in 1989 in which he accuses everyone and everything from Communism to the Brooklyn Dodgers of starting the fire even going so far as to say it was always burning since the world first turned on its oribtal axis.
In the song, he cites incidents of fire starting from the year of his birth in 1949 a move which proved to be he downfall.
"That was our first tip off" said Cpt Lanzetti of the Fakeville Police Department who has been following this case since his first day on the force in 1972.
He goes on to say "it just seemed a little strange-no fires present until 1949 when suddenly, Billy Joel appears in the world he then goes on to write a song pointing this crucial fact out-why, I don't know."
"I wanted to be found out" said a teary eyed Joel when asked why he would write the fatal song. "I just felt bad-it was an accident, I was playing with matches and then all this stuff happened-I wish to tell all my friends and the world that I am deeply sorry."
