Thrilled at being asked to speak at the Star Trek convention in Metropolis, Illinois which has the world's biggest Superman collection, or anywhere else for that matter, George W. Bush brought the fans to their feet as he came on stage.
Then, after every mispronounced "Is That Klingon? Is that Klingon?" statement, brought the crowd to their feet as many stood on their chairs to photograph the former president.
Hands, webbed and otherwise, were held high to get more snapshots.
"What did George Bush speak about?" I asked a Romulan who was flipping out.
"About an hour, at least!"
"Exactly, 57 minutes and 35.5 seconds", stated a Vulcan.
"But his subject. What did he speak on?"
"Up there on the stage. You had to see him."
"But I couldn't hear him, too much noise!"
But by then the crowd had rushed to the front to get up close to the ex-President.
That was when I finally realized why George was being invited to so many Star Trek and Star Wars conventions.
He was probably the only bush these poor nerds would ever get to see.
