Two diabetic elves were made very happy last Tuesday, when they got their first car from singer and socialite Susan Boyle.
"It was a pleasure knowing that I helped a couple of diabetic elves get the true meaning of friendship," said Susan Boyle, late Tuesday evening.
More specifically, the elves, Charles and Melinda Gillman, got a Toyota Corolla, good on gas and small in space.
"It's perfect. It's everything we ever dreamed of. A couple of years ago, my mom said that we would have a car one day. I didn't believe her, and neither did Charles. We said, 'No way,' and she said, 'Oh yes,' and I said, 'Whatever, mom,' and she stopped talking and had some jello pudding. One of those little packs you get in Walmart. I think it was one of those deals, you know," said Melinda, commenting on the car and whatever else popped into her random thoughts.
The elves had been part of DENT (Diabetic Elves, No Transportation), a Scottish charitable organization founded by Sean Connery in 1987. Hundreds of diabetic elves have benefited, receiving cars that have been donated by various people, including such celebrities such as Will Ferrel, Dr.Phil, and Yoko Ono. Susan Boyle is only the latest in the line of such ones.
When asked if he plans on starting another such organization, Sean Connery said, "Who know-sh? Maybe sh-someday I'll sh-tart a sh-imilar organization for anemic elve-sh. We'll have to sh-ee. Oh yeah, keep watching my movie-sh."
