The White House, Washington DENZIL

Washington DC - Hollywood actor Denzil Washington is to have a city named after him in honour of his achievements as an actor.

The capital city of Washington DC in the USA will be changing its name to Washington DENZIL in honour of the actor.

Citizens of Washington DC voted in favour of the change last month. They claimed that their city name was boring and old fashioned and it was time for a change. They also wanted to honour one of the greatest actors to be born in the city. Clint Eastwood was their first choice, but the vote was overruled when it was found Eastwood already had a city named after him in Romania. Second choice Robert De Niro was also overruled when panel members claimed it "sounded foreign - French or something." Third choice Will Smith was also overruled because of the similarity of the name to the famous weapon Smith & Weston. And so it went on, until they came to their 28th choice, Denzil Washington.

Citizens of Washington DENZIL are said to be delighted with the brand new & unique name and are throwing a mardi gras type parade to celebrate, with Denzil Washington as guest of honour.

Other celebs with cities named after them include Paris Hilton (Paris, France), Sydney Poiter (Sydney, Australia), Scarlett Johanson (Johannesburg, South Africa) and Holly Hunter/Woody Harrelson combined (Hollywood, USA).
