A major editorial in the Cheam Courier has explained the split between Katie and Peter in more detail.
It would seem that Katie and Peter Smith had gone to their local gastropub for Sunday night dinner. Peter ordered a chilli con carne and was undecided as to whether he should have chips or rice, seeing as his wife Katie was on a diet and might be tempted by seeing chips on her husband's plate.
However, thanks to the timely intervention of the bar staff member who took their order, Peter was able to split his meal between half chips and half rice.
After the meal, Katie said she was delighted with the result. She felt the intervention by the member of staff, who was called Kevin, and who she suspected was a homosexual, was fantastic, solving as it did their evening's biggest problem.
Peter explained that the split was totally amicable, and that he enjoyed having both rice and chips on the same plate. He added that his wife Katie was only tempted to take one chip, thus avoiding the trip to her local branch of WatchWeighters the following day to pay six quid and told by some complete stranger that she is fat.
Katie is now writing her autobiography based on her exploits dealing with the menu in the pub.
