image for Lead Singer Of Barenaked Ladies Leaves Band
Hopes New Group Will Appeal To Wider Audience

The lead singer of popular Canadian band the Barenaked Ladies, who was charged with drug offenses in the United States last year, is leaving to pursue a new career as lead singer of the "Totalfrontal Nudity", a spokesman for the new group said on Wednesday.

Steven Page, 38, was arrested in July 2008 and charged with drug possession after police found the singer with a bare naked lady and with cocaine at an upstate New York apartment.

In October, the charges were reduced to a misdemeanor. Then they were reduced to a slap on the back and a "Don't let us catch you doing that again. What was that lady's name and address who was with you at the time of your arrest?"

"By mutual agreement, Steven Page will have his record cleared and be parting company with the remaining members of Barenaked Ladies, and the bare naked lady he was caught with in the raid last year," the band said on its Web site, saying Page had since been assisting the police with their inquiries."
