image for "Lost In Space" Robot Dies!
"Warning! Warning! UFO Approaching, Will Robinson!"

The man who fit inside of the robot on Lost In Space, Bob May, has passed away at 69.

The veteran actor passed of congestive heart failure on Sunday, his daughter announced.

Despite providing the robot's antics for the 1960s kid classic Lost In Space's beloved Robot, May didn't do the "Danger! Danger!" voicing. That was done by the Lost In Space announcer Dick Tufeld.

"He always said he got the job because he fit in the robot suit," star June Lockhart, who played space mum Maureen Robinson, recalled.

"He just happened to be on the studio lot when someone saw him and sent him to see the producer about the part.

He was then told, 'If you can fit into the suit, you've got the job.'" The rest as they say is television history.

May also helped to animate others including Bob Newhart, Jack Benny and Ed Sullivan.

Plus he was always at the side of Al Gore during his long 1999-2000 presidential campaign.
