In his quest to become recognized as a "serious" actor, Adam Sandler, famous for his comedy on Saturday Night Live and movies such as Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore and The Wedding Singer, has been cast in a role that will put his talents to the test. Sandler will portray George W. Bush in an upcoming movie entitled, "In My Father's Feetsteps, the George W. Bush Story."
Peter Jackson, director of the most recent blockbuster J.R.R.Tolkien series, "The Lord of the Rings," will be directing this new project. Jackson gave us some insight to the project, "In My Father's Feetsteps will be as factual an accounting of the life and times of current US President George Bush as we can make it." said Jackson.
"In an effort to keep this film as real as possible," he continued, "we looked at actors such as Dennis Miller, Woody Harrelson and Bill Murray. We finally decided to go with Adam Sandler. We thought that if anyone could capture the stupidity, ignorance and tongue-tripping comedic orating abilities of Dubya, Sandler was that person. Sure, this will be an even more challenging film than LOTR was, but if Sandler can nail this role I believe that we will have another all time money grosser at the box office."
TheSpoof spoke with Adam Sandler, who seemed excited at the opportunity to finally be recognised as a true dramatic actor. He told us, "This is the opportunity of a lifetime for someone like me. I am just a tiny bit concerned that this could backfire, so I have been studying Bush from his early childhood mistakes to his most recent 'foot in the mouth' addresses to the world." said Sandler.
"I have had to play some pretty idiotic characters before, but this one is very different," said Sandler, "Bush is not a fictional character, he's the real deal, man. That means I am going to need to reach way down deep inside and find that part of me that will allow me to disengage all of my rational thought processes and become George Bush. All of the stupid characters I have played before have not really prepared me for this. It is the biggest challenge in my career and my life so far. I just hope I don't come across as too smart, that would be tragic."
Sandler believes that if he can pull it off, he will have done what Dustin Hoffman did for "Rain Man" and what Leonardo DiCaprio did for "What's Eating Gilbert Grape." He seems confident that he can lower himself to the role but he is not without certain reservations, and who wouldn't be. "In My Father's Feetsteps" is due to start filming in Crawford, Texas this coming spring and a release date is will be announced sometime for the summer of 09.
