Oasis today received the As Bad As Cliff Award, at the Park Lane Hilton in London. The award is given to people who have had a lifetime of a lack of achievement, such as Sir Cliff, Oasis, Blur and Paul McCartney.
And the band were also given a special 'outstanding contribution to copying Beatles songs' award. Liam Gallagher said: 'We're not as bad as Cliff, pal - we're worse, at least he can sing.' And his brother, Parker the chauffeur, added: 'I am the walrus, goo goo goo joob.'
Oasis have bored music fans to tears with album after album of bland, unoriginal, slow songs, and not even the Gallaghers' fake fights on stage could stop them getting these awards. But Bono had this to say about the Manchester pair: 'At least we didn't get the award this year, though we might be getting the As Bland As Cliff one.' Jimmy Saville is 100 today.
