Even though channels 5's Gadget Show has enjoyed growing from its original half hour format to a full one-hour slot, it faces a major problem now. The phone-in competition which has earned it millions of pounds in previous series has become a victim of 'phone-in phobia'.
The current competition has cost Channel 5 over £14,000 and unless a substantial number of calls are made soon, then they will be in a serious financial trouble and the programme will have to be axed! Although there are a few days to go, they have had only one call so far and will need at least 20,000 just to break even.
On one of the show's presenters, John 'Black Eyes' Bentley, said; "This business is appalling and is just goes to show how much distrust the public has in television competitions. As far as I know, Channel 5 have only cheated on one show called 'Brainteaser' which is a lunchtime show for the over 60s and for those who fancy the chick who presents it - I know that I do!"
Another of the show's presenters, Jason 'Baldy' Bradbury commented; "I am not going to say who made the call but is this Wiixboxstation with built-in MP3 player is absolutely fantastic!"
The other presenter, top totty, Suzi Perry, expressed her fears that if the show has to close, she will have to work with the likes of Jason Plato and Tiff Needell (who she thinks are posers) on 5th gear. "The way things are going with the price of cars and fuel, that show will bite the dust too and I shall have to resort to standing in for Carol Vorderman on Countdown or I might even have a go at pole-dancing!"
Clint Eastwood asked:"Do ya feel lucky, Punk? Well do ya?"
