Shock BBC reports have surfaced from the late 1970's that showed that the Mice on Bagpuss were actually striking Miners when they worked on the show.
Speaking to Professor Yaffle, he revealed the story to be the truth.
"Yes...They were striking miners. Obviously, we wanted to get proper, trained mice actors in, ones that had been to RADA and knew their Shakespeare from their Shepherd, but by the time we had paid the hush money about Madeline, and bought the jammy dodgers that Gabrielle needed, and tended to Bagpuss's ego, there was no money left in the pot at all, so we asked the Mice Miners to join us instead.
"They were a bit rough and tumble, and the language that they used was just vulgar, but we made use of what we could.
"People often ask how many mice there were. There were 8 in total, but sometimes only six could make it. Personally, I had forgotten all of that.
"Can you not leave this tawdry mess in the past now? We have only just lost Gabrielle and his folky ways without you raling this all up again"
