Los Angeles - Award winning actor Tom Cruise announced today that he will undergo a name change after he marries actress Penelope Cruz later this year. In a statement released through his publicist, the 41 year old movie star announced that he has filed legal documents to have his name officially changed to Tom Cruise-Cruz. Despite the fact that he has gained worldwide notoriety and fame with the name Tom Cruise, the handsome actor said in the statement that out of respect for his future wife's family heritage he felt this was the right thing to do.
"I know that a lot of people will have a hard time adapting to this name change and truthfully, so will I, but I think this shows the world that making a huge change in your life like I am doing can sometimes give you a new life that you never dreamed of having. Some may see this as a bad career move, but I think in time people will take to my new name and see that whether I go by Tom Cruise or Tom Cruise-Cruz, I'm still the same old guy," said Cruise.
His announcement and subsequent perplexing statements has some industry insiders believing that Cruise's scientology background is to blame. "In time, I think Tom Cruise will look back and regret this decision to legally change his name to Tom Cruise-Cruz. It could be catastrophic to his career," said New York Post Page Six gossip columnist Richard Johnson
Cruise has indicated that the recently released box-office smash, The Last Samurai would most likely be his last movie under the name Tom Cruise and that he will begin going by Tom Cruise-Cruz on all projects moving forward.
