In a surprising turn of events, it was announced Wednesday that 25-year old Blake Lewis was the actual winner of American Idol.
In post-Idol interview, Lewis mentioned that shortly before Ryan Seacrest announced 17-year old Jordin Sparks as the winner, he asked her permission to win twice, although only his second request was aired. After she agreed, Blake put on Jordin's costume, wig, and mask, while Jordin wore Blake's.
After Lewis was announced the winner in Jordin's costume, he asked for the producer to play a recording of the song, while he would create fake tears using a machine of his own invention. This is what others had to say about this:
"Jordin is a nice person," said judge Simon Cowell. "I've never met nice people before."
"I always knew I wasn't the only one who liked to change my hair," said seventh-place finalist Sanjaya Malakar.
"Even though she didn't officially win," said third-place finalist Melinda Doolittle, "she will still have a singing career. Maybe not as good as mine, but she will still have one."
Randy Jackson had this to say: "Yo, this switch was the bomb, man! Congratulations to both of them!"
Paula Abdul could not comment, as she was at a veterinarian's office at the time, treating her dog for a broken nose.
