Sesame Street's favourite blue monster has ditched the crumbly snack that brought him fame in the first place.
According to reports, Mr Monster has been repeatedly warned by doctors to cut out the cookies completely, due to the onset of diabetes. He has also been told to lose the weight gained after years of over indulgence, and has turned to a low fat diet, similar to the Atkins diet, in a last ditch attempt to shed the pounds.
"Me no longer cookie monster," he admits sadly, in his trademark gruff voice. "Me now high protein monster."
Since beginning the diet a month ago, he has lost 8 pounds-remarkable for a monster of his build, say doctors. However, as good friend Elmo admits, it hasn't been easy. "Cookie monster has mood swings now that he is no longer cookie monster," squeaks the small red furball, now close to tears. "We try to offer love and support, but he gets hungry. Very, very hungry. And with hunger comes anger."
The cookie monster has taken an extended break from filming the new series of Sesame Street, and has moved into close friend Oscar The Grouch's luxury Manhattan trash can.
