Countdown in Happier days.

The pilot TV show, Celebrity Countdown and hosted by Jeremy Clarkson , has been shelved after an embarrassing episode involving chancellor of the exchequer, George Osborne MP.

It all began swimmingly well until contestant Mr Osborne failed to achieve any score on the first numbers game. Fellow contestant, Katie Price, was said to have nailed the number 736 within fifteen seconds and the chancellor of the exchequer left scratching his head without putting pen to paper. Each numbers game thereafter, George Osborne was outstripped by Katie and completed each game with the phrase, 'em no'. At one stage George was seen to be finger counting and sucking uncontrollably on his pen.

It didn't get much better for the poor chancellor of the exchequer when playing the word games either. On all of them, there was not one word he was able to construct larger than four letters. Cat, bat, ball and fart were the best of his attempts. There was also one one word he came up with, so rude, it cannot be repeated in print.

Both Katie Price and Jeremy Clarkson were reported to have been holding there sides in laughter as Mr Osborne squirmed and one occasion looked visually like Stan Laurel.

The decision to axe the show game came about after David Cameron called the TV shows makers and pleaded with then not to air it. Knowing it was in their best interests, the show makers have now put the matter to bed.
