CHICAGO - The leader of the Black Eyed Peas, Will.i.am. was in Second City visiting one of his aunts, MayShontell "Grits" Waterford, 62.
While in Chi Town, he was asked by Tittle Tattle Tonight about the rumor that he was thinking of changing his name.
The man with the unusual hairdo nodded that he has been thinking about it for quite some time and after having dinner with Oprah Winfrey at The IHIPHOP Soul Food Restaurant a few nights ago, he has decided to change the spelling of his moniker.
Will told 3T's Tapioca Swizzle that on May 1, 2013, he will stop being Will.i.am and he will become the more politically correct Will.i.is.
When asked by Miss Swizzle if the move was done in the interest of Ebonics, Will made a face and said that the name change was first mentioned to him by one of his best friends, Los Angeles Laker star Metta World Peace.
Will laughed as he said that he did have to reject the name that Kanye West had suggested which was Will.i.sho.nuff.be.
SIDENOTE: The Black Eyed Peas will be performing on March 30, at The Carburetor Coliseum in Detroit, Michigan. Their opening band will be The Fa Shizzle Ma Nizzle Chumpz.
