Ricky Gervais has vowed never to present the Golden Globes again after his third stint was given a lukewarm reception by critics. Gervais caused outrage last year with a string of near the knuckle jokes at the expense of Hollywood royalty.
With Gervais out of the frame, bosses are considering playing a new joker card and inviting his colleague Karl Pilkington to MC the event.
Pilkington is not widely known in the US, but has recently been seen on in the Sky programme An Idiot Abroad where Gervais and Stephen Merchant sent him to visit the seven wonders of the world and observe local culture so he could give the general opinion "what's the point in that?"
Pilkington achieved notoriety when producing the Gervais and Merchant radio shows and podcast series, with bizarre quotes like 'Chinese people age badly compare to other races' 'You never see old men eating Twix bars' and 'Gay people should have their own public toilets'
When the spoof phoned Karl for a comment he replied "The Golden Globes - is that the pub in Manchester city centre?"
