image for Reggae Nirvana? A Nation Watches Gobsmacked

Music fans across the UK were stunned and appalled last night after witnessing some "amazing" covers on the leading music show, BBC 2's Later With Jools Holland.

During the extended Friday night show, the former Squeeze keyboard man introduced current stars such as Miles Kane and Laura Marling alongside the legendary crooner Tony Bennett and reggae stalwart Little Roy.

But it was during Little Roy's performance that things went wrong.

The Jamaican followed a brilliant acoustic cover of Michael Jackson's Billie Jean by boy/girl duo The Civil Wars with a cover of Nirvana's classic Lithium. He is currently promoting an album of Nirvana covers.

"Noooooooo! That was horrible," said top music critic Pierre Noxious. "I felt physically sick - it was like listening to bloody UB40!

"The daft old bugger even thought it was cool to take his hat off and dangle his dreads all over his mush at the line about 'shaved my head.'

"Actually, I was sick. But that might have been the extra half bottle of wine I drank waiting to watch the bloody show, they put it on so late!

"All the same - it was like UB40. I mean ... UB bloody 40!"

Make Ellis Ian Fields's day - give this story five thumbs-up (there's no need to register, the thumbs are just down there!)

The story above is a satire or parody. It is entirely fictitious.
