In a great effort to beat the cold spell and all its miseries the Stock Exchange in an heroic final hour pushed the FTSE over the 6000 mark. It is likely to be the best December since 1987.

Retailers are excited by the last minute rush to the shops and anticipate a Sale Season which will push profits up considerably.

Meanwhile the Queen is exercising in the Gymnasium near Sandringham with other members of the Royal Family. They are all eagerly awaiting the Queen's sporty message and are looking forward to two Royal marriages next year.

Everything is looking rosy. Prospects for the future are good and the only fly in the ointment - Vince Cable - has shot himself in the foot.

There is nothing to stop the economic recovery and the triumph of the market.

Fears that this optimism is just 'Hot Air' are being dismissed as misanthropic nonsense. The message of Christmas is clear.

Christ came into the world to praise the money changers and was crucified by radical students who didn't know their place.
