image for Apple to Package Macintosh and iMac in Little Debbie Snack Cakes !

Apple Computer and McKee Foods Corp announced a deal in which the packaging material for all Macintosh and iMac computers will consist of Little Debbie snack cakes baked by McKee in Collegedale, Tennessee. The Little Debbie "Swiss Cake Rolls" will be shipped by jumbo jet to Cupertino, California where they will replace the Styrofoam packing Apple previously used to protect its product shipments.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs says, "I've been munching on Little Debbie snack cakes for most of my lifeā€¦ I just love them! Last month I was pigging out on a whole box of them while I was in our shipping department. A few of the Swiss Cake Rolls accidentally fell into a new PowerMac we were shipping to a customer. Just as one or our workers caught it, I thought to myself that the snack cake just might be a good replacement for all that Styrofoam! We tested it out on a few units sent around the country; they all arrived in tip-top condition. Soon we started getting nice emails from our customers who enjoyed eating the Little Debbie cakes while they set up their new Macintosh computer! We are still trying to see if Little Debbie snack cakes can be used to ship our displays. We are very close to being ready to ship our iPod music players packing in Little Debbies, but I'm going to have to leave it as a big surprise to see which snack variety wins out."

Ellworth McKee, Chairman of McKee Foods, said, "My daughter Debbie will be thrilled to hear that her cakes will be going into Macintosh computer boxes! Our company is based on innovation. We haven't had such a great idea since my dad O.D. McKee designed the first continuous semiautomatic cupcake-pan oven in 1957. This setup greased the pans, deposited the batter, baked, washed, dried and automatically returned the pans, with only three employees overseeing the process! Our folks at the O.D. McKee Research Center are now busy at work making our entire line of snack cakes fit the packaging needs of American business."

A national TV advertising campaign featuring Rich Little is planned for later this year to mark the new business relationship between the Macintosh and Little Debbie brand names.
