Tata Mate Motor Company, the Indian motor manufacturer, has announced that it has agreed to buy Land Rover and Jaguar for around £1 from Ford if it includes the carpets.
Amongst Tata Mate's proposed new models for the west is the all new Jaguar 400 / (4 x4) Hard Top Troop Carrier.
A spokesperson said "Clearly Jaguar can no longer make cars without reference to the social, political and environmental conditions prevailing in the world today. Therefore, the first troop carrier to carry the prestigious Jaguar badge is aimed clearly at the upwardly mobile junior dictator or insurgent, whilst still flexible enough to handle the school run."
Next year, the company expects to launch the "Jaguar XJ-lakh car" - one lakh is 100,000 rupees, which equals about £1,250 - which it hopes will revolutionise the car market not only in the UK and the US but also in the developed world.
Tata Mate's plans for Land Rover are less clear, although talk of an all terrain mobile tandoori takeaway van persist.
