DETROIT (FMLiveWire) - General Motors has unveiled a radical plan to end all of its current high-priced car models and to switch production entirely to the new Nano car just unveiled by India's Tata Motors in an undisclosed licensing and joint venture arrangement.
The Nano sells for $2,500 and was unveiled January 10 in New Delhi as the world's cheapest car for the newly prosperous millions of India. It has been dubbed "the People's Car."
The Nano is small and basic. It has a motorcycle-size 35 horse power, 2-stroke manual engine that will get an economic 50 miles to the gallon of gas.
As General Motors retools all of its car production factories to the Nano, management will encourage its workers to convert to Hinduism and take up vegetarianism, which will be appropriate for their new non-union wage of around 5 dollars per hour.
Hindu Temples are currently under construction in all GM plants and auto dealerships worldwide.
GM autoworkers and dealers burned replicas of the Nano in response to the surprising announcement and were reported to be rioting.
