image for Northern Rock lends Labour Party £20 million for snap election
This should do it Gordon

Shitty of London - (Bankrolling Mess): Whitehall sources have said that troubled financial giant Northern Rock Bank is spearheading a £20 million loan to the Labour Party to finance its campaign in the recently-announced Halloween general election.

"It's a canny move," former Bank of England Governor Eddie George said today about the Treasury's recent recovery tactics in lending the Rock over £10 billion of taxpayers' money after a run on the bank caused panic in the City.

George, 69, was elevated to the House of Lords after relinquishing his post to deputy governor Mervyn King in 2006.

Having successfully eluded any probings of the relentless cash-for-peerages enquiry cops, he was soon snapped up for lucrative sinecures both in the City and in Academia.

Among his prestigeous appointments George sits as the BCCI Excellence Professor of Moneylaundering Cover-Up Studies in Crawford University in Texas.

An imminent non-exec directorship at the Northern Rock now seems a foregone conclusion.
