Underwater explosion: artist's impression

New Zealand - (Fallout Mess): Was a missing WWII atomic bomb behind the 6.3 magnitude tremor that struck New Zealand late last night?

Official Pentagon records are having none of it of course.

But the Soviet Union may be in the frame after decades of unaccounted for nukes suspected of delayed detonations around the world.

"Expect the next tremor in Tehran, slap bang under the so-called non-existent nuclear warhead factory," a seismology conspiracy website advised today.

"After that it's an aspirin factory site in Pyong Yang."

The news comes as hundreds were reported dead and thousands missing in New Zealand as aftershocks began to bite.

Prime Minister John Key put on a brave face about things as an estimated 30 million tonnes of ice from the Tasman Glacier in Aoraki-Mount Cook National Park shattered.

The deluge caused massive tidal waves around Christchurch Harbour.
