Sea of Afghanistan

New York NY: Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad spoke before the UN General Assembly, voicing his objections to the US sale of conventional (non-nuclear) powered submarines to Afghanistan.

The Iranian president indicated he read about the ship sale in The New York Times. He said "We firmly oppose the American sale of ships, especially conventional powered submarines, to Afghanistan. We have urged the Americans to recognize the dire consequences of selling any ships to Afghanistan."

The USA Ambassador to the UN said "The US no longer builds conventional powered submarines in our shipyards, constructing only nuclear powered vessels for the US Navy."

The UN Ambassador's from the Netherlands, Germany, Russia, Sweden and China which construct conventional powered submarines said "we have no knowledge of any pending ship sales from our respective countries to Afghanistan!"

The Afghanistan Ambassador to the UN said "President Hamid Karzai and the Afghanistan Foreign Minister are not overwhelmingly amused by President Ahmadinejad's remarks!"
