image for Shields tipped for Oscar success following Michael Jackson Memorial
Tigers going through their lines before the Memorial Service

Following today's emotional Michael Jackson memorial concert, Hollywood insiders have been speculating that friend of MJ and fellow childhood deity, Brook Shields, could actually receive an Oscar nod for her live speech which clearly reached out touched everyone, both young and old.

Speaking after the event, one fan, Mary Green, who had travelled all the way from Los Angeles, told reporters Shields' words were "so warm and sincere, it was almost as though it was straight from the heart." She added. "I can't believe she only had 9 days to rehearse it."

This is not the first time has somebody has been tipped for an Oscar following the death of a star. Back in 1997, Elton John, Queen of hearts, was widely tipped for picking up "Best Score", following his performance of 'Candle in the Wind' at Princess Diana's service, only to be ruled out because it was a re-release.

Shields' performance, however, could actually be eligible due a loop hole in Oscar rule book, as this service was promoted internationally by AEG Live. Our source revealed that promoter and selfless dream maker, Randy Phillips of AEG, may also actually do a feature length tribute film based on the memorial. If that is the case, a Hollywood insider confirmed to us that Brooks could therefore definitely be in the running.

Whatever happens, Shields has raised the bar for all actresses giving speeches and if she does get the Oscar, her acceptance speech could even surpass the heights of Hollywood darlings, Gwyneth Paltrow and Halle Berry. Let's keep our fingers crossed for her. Get rehearsing now Brooks!

Make Rodney Manners's day - give this story five thumbs-up (there's no need to register, the thumbs are just down there!)
