Mr. Rempel Pleased with Announcement

Cincinnati- Art critics are astir with the apparent discovery of a Vincent Van Gogh in the basement of a local house. Nobody was more surprised than the homeowner, Joel Rempel of Watterton Heights, to discover he was the owner of a painting by the Dutch Master.

"It came with the house" explained Joel, sheepishly.

The painting is of a bulldog playing cards and uncharacteristically for the master is painted on black velvet, however, the bold brush strokes of the master are unmistakable.

Art historians are divided as to the authenticity of the piece as the bulldog subject matter is portrayed smoking a cigar. Neil Watkins of the Cincinnati Art Institute explains. "Based on the time period that Van Gogh lived and customs of the time it is more likely that the bulldog would be smoking a Meerschaum pipe.

Since the announcement other pieces on black velvet attributed to Van Gogh have surfaced including a number of the King, Elvis Presley, and several portraits of Jesus Christ looking upwards in a saintly fashion.
