SAUDI ARABIA: Pakistan is slowly but surely going to Hell in a hand-basket. The writing is on the wall. Now that the shady Swat deal has been revealed for what it really is - a capitulation to the Taliban, Gen. Kayani's Army is starting to get restless.
No doubt it has been shown that both the Army and ISI have nurtured the Taliban and used them as "assets" against India. But now, there is an ominous feeling among the khaki-clad guys that pretty soon they will have to relinquish control - not to a civilian administration but to the Taliban. The fear is palpable.
There is no guarantee that their Taliban brothers will protect them. In fact, fear is rife that many upper echelon Army officers could find themselves being tried as US spies and executed.
Saudi Arabia has not pumped any money into the Friends of Pakistan fund. Musharraf has just arrived in this country for talks with 'important people'. An unnamed Pak Army source has stated:
"With conditions on the ground and our "Fear of India" ploy no longer working, we now have to change horses in mid-stream. We can no longer trust the Taliban, So we will coup again, overthrow the Parliament and install Musharraf as civilian dictator, er, President. Holbrooke is OK with that and will give us lots of money".
