image for Brown-Obama relationship "a bit too special"
The "special" relationship

UK Prime Minister Brown has met the brown US President for the first time today in Washington. They talked about the economy and also about the UK and US "special relationship" in great depth.

Mr Brown was coy about how special the relationship was, and refused to comment on who was on top and who had to be on the bottom. However he did say that it was time for Obama to "pull his finger out" and to put his money where his mouth is.

In return, he said that he would "bend over backwards" to support the US in these hard times. "Things are going to get very stiff," he went on, "and some of us may be punished badly. But somehow we're going have to stand up straight and keep on walking. We are in need of stimulus, and Obama here is unleashing the biggest package I've ever seen. I firmly believe that Obama's enormous package will revitalise the US economy and get things flowing again."

It is not clear whether he was still talking about the economy or not.
