A person in a Donald Duck suit pays homage to the dead duck.

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Donald Duck, world-famous cartoon duck and stalwart of the Disney animation empire, is dead at 70.

Mr. Duck remained humble and stoic right to the end, according to Disney spokesmen.

"He had to play second fiddle to Mickey Mouse all his life," said a close duck friend, "and he never made it an issue with Mickey or Walt or anyone."

A funeral march down Disneyworld's Main Street marked the occasion, with Mickey and Minnie Mouse leading the way. Daisy Duck and friends followed, all wearing black arm bands.

Donald made his acting debut on June 9, 1934, in the cartoon The Wise Little Hen. Since then, he appeared in hundreds of films.

"He was an inspiration to me," said fellow-cartoon-duck-star Daffy. "He taught me a lot and it should be known that although we were always looked at as different cartoon ducks, there was a lot of Donald in me."
