image for 2008 Olympic Games Medal Scandal
And it's gold for Adlington!

There was outrage at the British Olympic team camp tonight as a new scandal broke involving the Gold, Silver and Bronze medals awarded to the competitors at the Beijing Games. A statement from British Team officials claimed that "the medals are made of chocolate".

China isn't particularly well-known for its confectionery, and eyebrows were raised several months ago when the Beijing organisers called in 'experts from Belgium' to assist in the design of the medals.

Britain won four gold, a silver and four bronze medals on Saturday, but trouble surfaced when Rebecca Adlington, winner of the 800m Freestyle swimming, found that her medal was melting after she emerged from the Ice Cube into the balmy atmosphere of Beijing.

The British rowing crew won their race, but discovered after they had returned to Camp GB, that their 'medals' were nothing but a sticky brown mush wrapped in gold-coloured tin foil.

And cyclist Bradley Wiggins had a similar experience after taking the gold in the Individual Pursuit at the Velodrome. Said Wiggins:

"Mmmmmm, they're delicious!"
