image for Pakistan to NATO: "Please, come in!"
Welcome to Waziristan! -- no "blackface" here.

ISLAMABAD (Reuterus) - Pakistan's National Security Council and President Pervez Musharraf indicated today that they might accept foreign intervention against extremists operating in lawless tribal areas bordering Afghanistan.

This is akin to calling an exterminator when you have rats the size of small dogs in your house -- when they have grown far too big for conventional traps. (But what the heck?)

What is not clear is why the Pakistani government has now suddenly decided that militants within its borders pose a serious threat to the country and its international reputation.

It may have been a case of denial regarding how bad things really had become in their own backyard -- or it may be attributable to the latest Hollywood film adaptation of 'A Mighty Heart', starring Angelina Jolie.

"We know that President Musharraf is a big fan of Ms. Jolie's," said a Senior Fellow at the conservative think tank, the American Enterprise Institute. "Anything that he can do to help improve the chances of her re-visiting the country would be seen positively."

Meanwhile, black pop culture critic Orville Lloyd Douglas has accused President Musharraf of being an 'Uncle Tom' for chasing after white Hollywood's version of Mariane Pearl.
