image for Portugese Police Eliminate Suspects One by One in McCann Case
Typical white male wanted for questioning

The Portuguese police in the case of missing Madeleine McCann are leaving no stone unturned in the hunt for her alleged abductor. They are arresting "suspicious looking British men" one by one in an attempt to actually get the right man, assuming that the abductor is actually British and male, that is.

Having released the first "suspect" , arrested on the basis that he reminded journalists vaguely of convicted murderer Ian Huntley, they have announced that they will continue to arrest Brits abroad until the right man is arrested. Failing that they will start to arrest Portuguese men and then move onto Portuguese police officers investigating the case. Earlier, Chief Inspector Olegario de Sousa announced that he expects to be arresting himself by late March 2008.

"This is a small Island of Portugal," he stated in broken English, as his translator has been arrested, "We are requesting that no one leaves the Island until the child is found, especially if they have the child, in this case we are hoping that they will arrest themselves and hand the child to themself as quickly as possible."
