Look into my eyes-straight into my eyes

In a much-anticipated blaze of publicity Tony Blair has today announced that he will be stepping down as Prime Minister with immediate effect, handing the reins of Great Britain over to his understudy Mr Gordon Brown.

In a surprise move Mr Blair called a press conference after a visit from top mind-bending magician Derren Brown, nephew of Gordon Brown. Mr Blair was asked to pick a date, any date - and he picked today.

When asked what the meeting with Derren Brown was about Mr Blair commented that he had no recollection of anything that took place during the meeting. He also did not seem to recall that the Downing Street liaison was at first touted as a way of getting Tony on TV- again, following his successful debut with Catherine Tate.

Mr Blair commented, "I am told I met with Derren Brown today, but I feel that this is irrelevant. What is relevant is that I am absolutely certain that this is the right time to step down as Prime Minister."

A grinning Gordon Brown commented, "Iraq 3-2-1 you're under" at which point Mr Blair began to strut round the podium flapping his arms and making chicken noises.
