image for UK Releases Stamps to Rival US Star Wars Set
One is not amused

The US has today announced that it will be releasing a set of 15 special edition stamps celebrating its Star Wars classic film series. Here in the UK officials pressured by the public to bring out our own set of commemorative stamps in the same vein stated: "We tend to just put the Queen on ours, not Darth Maul."

However, bowing to public pressure, a report has been commissioned which revealed that recent British Oscar-winning hits would be the nations favourite choice for a set of stamps. Sadly, the resulting mock -up stamp featuring Helen Mirren as the Queen was deemed too confusing for most of the country. A spokesman commented," We just didn't know who to put where."

Dame Judi Dench was also considered for her award-winning roles, but as her main roles have included Elizabeth the First in "Shakespeare In Love" and Queen Victoria this was also problematic for the general British public.

It was eventually decided that only Oscar-nominated British actors and actresses who had never portrayed any royalty at all could be used on the new British stamp set.

A spokesman stated today, "Having ruled out most top British thespians, this left only one man, although he was involved in a film with Queen in the title we let that go."

The new set of stamps, featuring Terence Stamp, in his role from "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert", will go on sale on Monday.
