image for Republicans Say Americans Want the Rich to Succeed

Watch any Republican political ad on television and you'll hear one of two messages. Either the deficit needs to be reduced and they are the ones to do it, or government is too big and they are the ones who will pare it back. In either case, what you don't hear but what is being said loud and clear is that the Americans who are willing to vote for them (the Republicans) want the rich to succeed. That's why their most favorite ad of all features the words "We will extend the Bush tax cuts for all Americans."

Really? Wow. Tax cuts. Well, that makes it all better. There is one little flaw in their message. Extending the tax cuts will cost taxpayers 4 trillion extra dollars. They don't mention that in their message. No need to. So, they are going to reduce the deficit and at the same time add 4 trillion dollars to the deficit. No, that's not what they said. They said they are going to give us tax breaks. What more do Americans need to know? Americans want the rich to succeed. That's all they really need to know. Actually they don't even need to know that, but knowing that makes them happy.

Why shouldn't it? How many Americans do you know go out of their way to watch a Rolls Royce drive by, or see a stretch limo parked in front of a building and wonder out loud who is in it? Americans are obsessed with wealth and the wealthy. So much so that they aren't hearing the real story behind the messages being sold to them in the way of political ads. The rich know this and as much as they hate gawkers, they'll put up with them if the price is right.

The rich are always going to be rich. You can' take rich away from rich, but you can give the rich more as long as you give the middle class some of that wealth and that's what the Republicans are gonna do. They're gonna give us some tax breaks, just like George Bush was doing before that tax and spend fella Obama got into office.

Look, the deficit is always going to be a large sum of money. So what if it grows exponentially with the next term of Republican senators. There are oodles of social programs to cut back on. Government is too big as it is. Remember? That's what the Republicans want you to believe. That, and the fact that if you vote for them, they're gonna give you a nice big fat tax break. That $400 check will sure come in handy about the time the Buick needs new brakes.
