As Sarah Palin was speaking at a picnic in her hometown, Wasilla, AK, on July 26, delivering her farewell address to an audience of mostly supporters and admirers, she closed her statements by attacking the press for "making things up." She then led a prayer and closed with ". . .in Jesus's name we pray. And in the name of the troops, also."

At this point a woman in the crowd bent over and removed her shoes and threw them at Palin. With the reflexes of a point guard honed during her days as "Sarah Barracuda," Palin caught the shoes, one in each hand, and looked at them and said to herself, "Hey, these are Naughty Monkey pumps. And they are my size. I can use these." She then tossed them to her husband, Todd, who surreptitiously sniffed them and smiled.

Palin's security detail subdued the woman who had hurled the footwear and then took her into custody. Authorities would not release the identity of the assailant nor the motives behind the attack because of an ongoing investigation. They would only say the woman was a liberal blogger from Homer, AK who had "political and philosophical differences" with the former governor.

When asked about the incident Palin would remarked, "It's another example of how the mainstream media are out to destroy me and my family."
