image for New York Post Attempts "Clarification" With New Cartoon
"Ha! Get It Now?! (wink wink, nudge nudge!)" [above: the latest cartoon from the Post]

New York, New York: Mere days after the New York Post published what was first thought to be one hilarious cartoon involving President Obama's economic policies and a chimpanzee shot dead, The New York Post has published yet another cartoon in order to "clarify" the resulting "apparent misunderstanding."

Explaining to readers that "the whole thing was just one huge misunderstanding", the Post's current publication involves a cartoon of simply a rope tied into a hangman's noose along with the caption, "Ha! Get It Now?! (wink wink, nudge nudge!)"

"Well, we decided that the last cartoon must have just flown right on over the American people's heads," explained one source at News Corp., the parent company of the New York Post, who requested anonymity. "Of course, we're quite aware of the fact that readers of our publication are not necessarily the most, shall we say, sophisticated folks in the world, but still, we just didn't anticipate that degree of confusion."

Asked if perhaps the cartoon might have fared a bit better 50 years or so ago, the source explained "well... I mean sure, it's been a few decades since the good ole days -- and we certainly expected a bunch of [black people] to whine and complain about it -- but we knew we'd completely lost the message when we began catching a lot of flak from hoards and hoards of white folks. We really underestimated the potential outrage a cartoon involving a dead monkey would cause."

"However," the source assured, "we have learned our lesson: no more dead animals in cartoons! It's just not considered funny, and I agree, it's insensitive and we should have exercised better judgment. Ultimately, that's why we decided to simplify, hence clarify, the point of the original cartoon."

Risking the appearance of being completely out of touch with our source, we posed the following question for further clarification: So, why a rope -- a hangman's noose -- this time around?

Clearly confused and utterly baffled by the question, the source went on to explain, "Well, of course we realized the need to stick to the basics, just a simple rope -- we even left out the tree so as not to complicate things any more than absolutely necessary. See, get it? And I think our readers will agree: this cartoon is much more simpler and easier to understand than the one published last week. No dead animals, just a cleverly funny cartoon!"

"In fact," the source finally boasted, "we have a very funny 'toon lined up for sometime next week as well. I'm not at liberty to divulge all of the details now but it will involve a log chain, a pick-up truck, and a bar-b-que at a local town square down in Mississippi. Hilarious stuff, but you'll only find good quality wholesome family entertainment of this caliber in the New York Post!"
