image for Barack Obama Counters John McCain 'Joe the Plumber' Speech With 'Bob the Builder' Speech
Can he fix it?

Democrat leader, and now 44th United States President, Barack Obama, trumped fallen opponent, John McCain, with an uplifting acceptance speech last night, with echoes of the Republican leader's own 'Joe the Plumber' speech.

Obama, 47, who - in case you hadn't noticed - is the first black American President, and the first black man in the White House, used children's cartoon 'Bob the Builder' as the model for his address, with Bob's trademark "Yes, we can" the rallying centrepiece slogan.

Bob, who is a builder, was created by Keith Chapman, and speaks with the voice of British comedy actor Neil Morrissey.

He repeatedly faces the question:

"CAN WE FIX IT?"

regarding his ability to achieve challenging and seemingly impossible tasks, when carrying out his everyday tasks, and replies in confident fashion with the assertive:

"YES, WE CAN!"

Mr Obama, 47, is obviously a massive fan of the cartoon builder, for he uttered Bob's stock response no less than SEVEN times in his speech, with his supporters repeating it with a Gospel Choir-like-affirming "Yes, he can!" in his wake.

It remains to be seen if 'Bob' Obama can really make the difference Americans so dearly want, and need, after eight years of George Bush, but from the start, he is making all the right noises, in a workmanlike way, and with the united voice of the nation behind him.

Well, some of them* anyway!

* Take a look at the BBC blue/red map though, for a different perspective on the Voting Breakdown:

Blue: Obama, Red: McCain
