95-year-old great grandmother Vera Pennyworth from Dorset in England is the latest foreign tourist to fall foul of New York's stringent jay walking laws.

Proceeding from her hotel to a nearby Wal-Mart to buy presents for her family she inadvertently stepped off the curb against a red light.

Within minutes a SWAT team of 50 heavily armed policemen had taken position and Vera was soon placed in custody.

A spokesman for the NYPD told "The Spoof", "She didn't put up much of a struggle but you can never take chances that our peace officers are not going to come under life threatening attack".

Vera was placed in leg and wrist irons and taken to the County jail. Her Zimmer frame was left on the pavement beside the scene of her arrest.

A representative of the Department of Homeland Security has applauded the arrest. He told us, "This another example of our unceasing vigilance in the wake of international terrorism."
