The two United States Mars rovers, Opportunity and Spirit, have been involved in a head on crash on the Martian surface. The two sets of NASA mission specialists who control the different probes apparently got involved in game of  "rover chicken" after drinking a bit too much Pepsi Cola last evening. " Things got a little out of hand," admitted Flight Director Chris Lewicki, " The boys had a bit too much caffeine and spirits were high and well, you know, things happen. I tried to tell them it would end in tears, but they wouldn't listen."

Although damage to the two craft was minimal NASA is worried that it's insurance premiums will skyrocket. " We're gonna pay for this one through the nose," a chagrined Mr. Lewicki said, " One of the guys involved on the Spirit side wasn't even certified to be driving the thing...actually, he just gets us coffee and stuff. Geico, our insurance carrier, is already talking about dropping us."

When asked how the two rovers could have ended up close enough to one another to even have an accident when they were supposed to be on opposite sides of the planet, Mr. Lewicki said, " You know, it's a funny thing about that. Remember a while back when we made that whole feet to meters mistake? Well, gosh darn if we didn't do it again. We thought they landed five thousand miles away from each other when in fact it was no more than forty five feet. We were gonna keep that little gem quiet, but I guess that cat's out of the bag now."

NASA officials have been working feverishly throughout the night, rocking the two rovers back and forth in an effort to unlock the two crafts bumpers.
